Visitor Reviews of Herdwick Croft

Lovely weeks stay in Hawkshead Lodge with hot tub. Lodge was spotlessly clean and well equipped to meet our needs and we would definatly return out of season again.Hoseasons website advertise this lodge as having a private corner position, this however is not the case. There appears to have been additional lodges added to the area therefore not as private as advertised This did not impact upon the stunning view of Scaffel with its ever-changing colours which was stunning. Also, it would be beneficial for the site to have signage of reception area ( l8cated in Herdwick *****'s Bistro) . I would also suggest for the site to have a folder / information of walking / hiking routes of the local area, when we enquired in the bistro the individual in the bar area was not helpful at all despite informing us he had lived there for a few years . Overall a lovely last minute week away in a very comfortable lodge.

Nice break away for me and the other half, but was also room for the kids if we wanted to go back next time and take them along with us

When we entered the lodge everything seemed okay, but sadly the cleanliness let the lodge down alot. The sofas were very stained and need a good clean, the carpets were full of spillage stains. The oven was very dirty and also needed a deep clean, the fridge had a funny smell. The WiFi was not always working, so we couldn't use our Netflix. The hot tub doesn't stay hot and there was no way to control the temperature, so we couldn't stay in it for long. We had a problem with the boiler on the Saturday, so we tried to call the warden at 8am and the phone kept going to answer phone. I finally got through to someone at the bar at 10:20am. The location is good and your not overlooked. But sadly we won't be returning.

Lodge was spotlessly clean amd really nice comfy decor inside. Comfy large beds in both rooms. We stayed in the loweswater which was lovely amd private, hottub was clean and chexked daily and emptied when leaving which i think is important, it was hot and in a private garden area at the side with stunning south facing views. Will be returning as lots of great walks from the lodge. The area is beautiful.

Large comfortable lodge with a private hotbtub, however, attention to detail would enable a much higher ratings, cobwebs on light fixtures, large shower head not connected, free standing bath hot water not great, as needed to top up from kettle, gas cooker not brilliant and no microwave, which would have been helpful as on site Bistro was not open for 5 of the 7 days we were there.

Home from home, take cleaning supplies and toiletries with you as only bare left on arrival. Very comfortable beds with quality bedding. One improvement would be cupboard for food stuff as there is very little, but manageable.

Great lodge, lovely comfortable bed and bedding, large bath sheet. Very clean and well maintained. Lots of outdoor space on the decking. WiFi worked well. Lots of equipment in the kitchen including dishwasher and washing machine, heating worked very well once we worked out how to use the thermostat setup. Would be happy to come here again.

Lovely lodge and perfect for a one year old However finishing touches such as hand soap tea and coffee would be nice. The mattress in the main bedroom has seen better days

Stayed for 7 nights. Very impressed with the look of the site and the surrounding area. We stayed in the Broadwater (Minster) lodge which was lovely. Very clean and fresh and had everything we needed. The hot tub was lovely but could’ve done with being a little warmer for us now the days/nights are a little chillier. The bar/bistro seemed nice but wasn’t open mid week due to winter opening times, but managed to squeeze a waffle in on the Sunday afternoon, which was lovely. If you like to chill and watch the TV there’s no signal for TV channels, you can watch through apps like ITV X, My5 etc but the internet is poor also so doesn’t always work, purely location related. Overly a lovely week away and a good base for exploring or quiet place for relaxing.

The Lodge was clean, comfortable and stylish, and the hot tub was great to relax in after days out exploring, although unusually, you do need to take your own robes to use when getting out of the hot tub. We've always found that other Hoseasons locations have provided robes. We did advise the staff by text (as advised if there were any issues) that there was a loose toilet seat and toilet roll holder, but we didn't get a response.

We had a fab holiday and really enjoyed our stay overall. I really wanted to give Bassenthwaite Lodge a 5 star review but sadly the standard of cleanliness really let it down. On the face of it, it appeared fine, bedding was lovely and fresh and clean but in the en suite there was toothpaste in the brush holder and little silver peel off lids from toiletries in the shower meaning it hadn't been cleaned properly. When my children went to put their clothes away there were long dark hairs in the drawers and sadly the living room carpet was thick with dog hairs. It's not immediately noticeable but if you sit on the floor you are covered when you stand up. Finally, despite the hot tub being drained and refilled for each guest, when we opened the lid it had debris in the bottom and what I can only describe as scum on top of the water.Such a shame because there is the potential for this lodge to be fabulous. In order for this to happen, basic amenities need including such as a hoover for guests to use. As the week went on the floors became really grubby with crumbs and other general dirt we tracked in. Furthermore, the weather was atrocious for 5 out of our 7 days, which is to be expected when holidaying in the lakes, sadly it also meant we couldn't use the hot tub. I would gladly pay a little bit more for a canopy over so it could be used regardless of the weather. Finally, the welcome pack is non-existent. We always stay in self catering accommodation and this is the only place I've stayed that hasn't provide a starter pack of coffee etc. (incidentally it's also the most expensive accommodation ive ever booked). I had taken some pods for the coffee machine as I had seen other reviews, but when we arrived the machine was a different one then the one pictured rendering my pods useless! Annoying. Fortunately I had done a shop and taken with me cleaning items and plenty of food etc but I feel due to the lack of shop on site, this would be a nice touch, particularly when commanding a £1000+ fee The situation of the lodge was perfect. We did not feel overlooked and the beautiful stream next to us helped us drift off to sleep listening to the sound of nature. It really wouldn't take much for this lodge to be brought up to a much higher standard. And whilst we would return to Herdwick Croft, as we enjoyed the proximity to the lake and its location handy for Keswick, I would chose a different lodge.

Lodge was lovely and clean with everything we needed as a family of 4 plus a dog. Set in a tranquil location that is really relaxing. We wrongly assumed there would be some walks round about us but needed to take car to get to nice walks. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times so it would be good if there was a dedicated exercise area.

Lovely lodge and provided everything we needed. Cockery, cutlery, dishwasher, gas oven, fridge and freezer.A home from home.Very clean and hot tub was ready to go.Twin beds were on the small-size and very close together so not suitable for older children.Few points which had no effect on our break but worth mentioning:Front door was a bit difficult to open/close. May have dropped in its frame so an easy fix. Fire extinguisher needs looking at for pressure. Bedroom door to bathroom (labelled as an ensuite but to a shared bathroom) didn't lock.

Stunning lodge, very clean, we were all very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only tip I would suggest is perhaps some hooks on the fence by the hot tub so we can hang towels/robes but everything was great and we really enjoyed our break.

It was brand new so everything was super clean , main thing for me is cleanliness. Hope it will be kept clean as there were a lot of shelves to dust ( spiders will love it) Fittings were lovely looking and furniture very comfy , settee and bed nice and big too. Could have done with a coffee machine, otherwise good cooking facilities. Cupboards could have done with a bit better organising to give room to put groceries , there seemed to be something in every cupboard .

The caravan and site overall were very good and the caravan was very new and beautiful. The hot tub was also very nice and private. The caravan had been cleaned prior to our arrival but there were a lot of dead flies on the floor. When we arrived there was no electricity and we couldn’t put any heating on (as it was a chilly day) and we spent some time trying to find the fuse box. A member of the team did try to help but she couldn’t find it. The living area is amazing with lovely comfy settees and eating area and we enjoyed our time reading and watching tv after returning from our walks. Unfortunately on the first night there was a slightly strong smell of drains, but by the second night it was rather unbearable so we left early the next morning as couldn’t face another night of it. The drain smell could also be noticed when in the hot tub. On leaving the caravan we reported our complaint to a member of the team who acknowledged our issue and the fact that we were leaving early as a result, but no apology or other response, which was disappointing as we didn’t particularly want to leave as everything else was very nice, including the weather (for a change). We wouldn’t recommend the site due to the poor response of the staff but the actual site itself was lovely, quiet and well located to explore. There was also no basics, such as salt and other condiments and not enough toilet roll to last 2 days, never mind the 3 nights that we had booked for.

Beautiful caravan (Buttermere) and great location, very close to Lake which is walking distance. No shop onsite, and very little restaurant options for dinner in walking distance, still need the car. (Family of 4)
Emily
We loved our stay. Our dog loved it too and never normally settles when we’re away but she was right at home! The decked area was secure with a gate which made our lives so much easier! Clean, spacious, great location, lovely hot tub we will definitely be back!
Joanne
Excellent 3 night stay in the Buttermere lodge. Nice and quiet even though it was weekend. We didn't use the car at all as there's plenty to do within walking distance, and it was lovely to get in the hot tub in the evening. We'll definitely be back.
Shona
We loved our time at this lodge - spacious, decorated to a very high standard, quiet and not too far a drive to Keswick. The lodge was stunning and we received a very warm welcome from Laura and Dave Would definitely recommend.
Kirsty
Had amazing week (from 8th July 22) staying in "Buttermere Lodge". We had been searching for the perfect place to bring our dog. We have found a gem of a place. The holiday park is ideally located between Keswick and Cockermouth. And near the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake. Our accommodation was modern, clean .... just perfect. It had everything you need for a self catering place. Supermarkets are in Cockermouth so we got stocked up. The on site guys, Laura and Dave were on hand if you needed them, and so friendly and helpful. We loved the hot tub!. We are going to book for next year. For anyone visiting, look after the accommodation and keep it nice for every visitor. Herdwick Croft is currently building a bistro at the front which will be an added bonus. There are lovely walks to go on around the site if you have a dog (or not). I would not hesitate to recommend Herdwick Croft lodges. Can't wait to come back! Obviously we weren't there to camp so cannot comment on the site or facilities (although the site where the caravans, tents were, looked nice). Some earlier reviews may say towels weren't provided. They were!. Although take your own for the hot tub. The lodge even had a washer/dryer, iron, small ironing board, clothes airer, hairdryer, and fully equipped kitchen. It was perfect!
George
excellent lodge nice and quiet location with plenty nearby activities staff really friendly will definitely go back
Kelly
Gorgeous place nestled in between one of the lakes and a distillery. Great for walkers and other lakes within 20/30 min drive.
Reece
Really enjoyed our holiday at herwick croft, the lodge was immaculate and had great views over skiddaw. Hot tub was brilliant too. Staff were friendly.
Zoe
Lovely stay at herdwick Croft. Perfect location for visiting local attractions. Nearest shop is a 10 minute drive. The only recommendation I would have would be to supply more toilet rolls, bin bags and dishwasher tablets as only 1 supplied for a weeks stay. Also some small toiletries in the bathroom would be handy as no hand wash was supplied.
Nicholas
Great location and accommodation was very comfortable - no issues. We enjoyed the hot tub which was clean and well maintained. Would definitely return.
Victoria
It was wonderful - thank you for having us. See you next year!
Claudia
Herdwick Croft is a lovely quiet site, with beautiful surroundings. It sits on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake and it is just a short walk down to the water. There isn’t any restaurant/bar on site yet, however it is in the process of being built. There were recommendations of places to eat and drink within a short walk or drive so that wasn’t an issue for us. I can definitely recommend The Wheatsheaf Inn, the food was fantastic!
Susan
Lovely small park set with gorgeous views
Carl
Stayed at the buttermere lodge for 7 nights and will definitely be returning to herdwick Croft in the future. The lodge and hot tub were clean and in good condition. The surrounding areas were stunning with a short drive to Keswick and beautiful walks. Perfect for couples, families and dogs.
Lewis
Loved the Crummock Vip it had everything we needed. Nice quiet location but also close to places we wanted to visit. Staff on the site were very helpful and only a txt away if needed. Will be nice when the bistro/bar is finished which im sure we will be back to enjoy.
