We had such a lovely week at the lodge! It was super comfy and had everything we needed, especially those thick, fluffy bath sheets - absolute luxury after a day out. The eco-friendly vibe from Lauren and Jake really resonated with us; they’ve kept up the great ethos from the previous owners. Luckily, the weather was perfect, so we spent most evenings just soaking in nature, watching squirrels and ducks in their element. We also took trips to York, Aysgarth Falls, Whitby, Scarborough and Eden Camp - all worth a visit for sure. We grabbed some tasty meals at Thompson’s Fish Restaurant, Tykes and The Ship Inn too. Lauren was so helpful, always checking in and open to suggestions. We’ve been here twice now and already planning our next trip!

We had such a lovely stay at Great Wood Lodges! The cabin was spotless, comfy and surprisingly roomy, with thoughtful touches like condiments, towels and even some jigsaws to pass the time. The couple running the site are genuinely friendly and always happy to help; when we asked about local chip shops, they directed us to Thompsons down the road, where we ended up having some of the best chips and fritters we've ever tasted. The lodges are nestled around a peaceful lake tucked inside a woodl and area, making it the perfect spot for total relaxation. Honestly, we could have spent ages just sitting on the veranda, soaking in the views and watching the birds and cheeky squirrels at the feeders. That said, the area has loads of great places to explore if you're feeling more active. We enjoyed wandering around the Shambles and visiting York Minster and driving across the stunning Yorkshire Moors to Whitby was a highlight. We didn’t get to see everything we wanted, but that just means we’ll need to come back! All in all, we’d definitely recommend Great Wood Lodges for a chilled-out holiday in a beautiful setting-can’t wait to return!

Excellent holiday lodges very quiet and away from it all

Great little oasis, very clean and comfortable lodges, a lot of care has gone into the small details. Wildlife on your doorstep. Only thing I would of preferred would be a little more distance between the lodge for privacy. But a great little site even so.

Sally
Lovely relaxing week, clean comfortable lodge, great for walking, really enjoyed all the wildlife and watching what the fishermen caught. Close to towns and cities. I plan to return sometime.
Julie
An absolutely lovely lodge in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The lodge was immaculate throughout with comfy beds and fully equipped kitchen. The lake and woods around was filled with wildlife and we spent ages watching the geese with their babies. Just rural enough for peace and quiet but close enough to shops and the centre of York.
