Marlie Holiday Park - Reviews

Big thanks to Gabrille, who cleaned our house before we arrived. It was fantastically clean. We really enjoyed living there. Only the smaller bedroom has a very inconvenient layout. Narrow beds and a wardrobe placed in an awkward and dangerous way. I hit my head on the corner of the wardrobe, good thing it wasn't a child. However, I know that this is not the fault of the owner of the house but of the manufacturer.

We had a lovely time at Marlie Holiday park and would definitely return. However the only constructive feedback i would give is that the parking is ludicrous. It was a free for all with people parking everywhere along Romney Hollow. Some families had up to 4+ cars with them. It made it dangerous to let our children out on their scooters & mean't walking through large puddles as each side of the road was stacked with cars. Spaces really need to be limited to 1 car per Caravan and be given a designated space and have a sticker displaying the van number . Any additional cars should be parking in the overflow car parks by the shops or club houses, as it's not really a fair system at the moment, and mean't people dragging their belongings up and down the road on the last day, and cars double parking everywhere. The caravans are also very tightly packed together on Romney Hollow, with 3 rows of caravans each side sharing one road (that is full of cars) it meant you constantly had people walking up and down the side of the caravan throughout the night being quite noisy. Which isn't ideal with young children. The park itself is lovely and if we returned we would look at one of the platinum lodges that are on one of the quieter roads at the back. The park is very small so everything is within close walking distance which was brilliant. The pool facilities were lovely, it was easy to book the swimming and you could only book 1 swim at a time which mean't it was fair to everyone and nobody had pre-booked loads of spaces and then didn't turn up. The pool was lovely and clean and the inflatables they sell were reasonably priced. The baby pool was very warm, perfect for the younger ones, and also a great depth so they could go off and splash around freely without it feeling unsafe. The clubhouse was really nice and modern, with a pizza oven, an arcade & pool table. Food was ok, i would say your basic Harvester style food. However the breakfast on the last day took ages and when it came out it was terrible, under cooked food, food that looked like it had been bitten. Unfortunately we were leaving, by the time it finally arrived, we had no time to send it back otherwise we would have. The kids entertainment is great, they have a disco each night and a meet and greet with one of the mascots. And then later on lots of entertainment for adults too. ( Bingo, singers etc) They also had magic shows on through the day. My children loved the arts & crafts cabin, where you can book sand art, bear making and pottery painting. All reasonably priced and really enjoyed on a rainy day on the site. On the last day they also had an inflatable fun park for the kids which they loved! The Gold caravan itself was actually really nice, it was super clean inside, and really modern & had all the essentials you need, cooker, microwave, and cutlery. As i mentioned earlier it is just a shame about the location / proximity to other caravans. You are also less than a 10 minute drive to Dymchurch breach, which is a beautiful sandy beach, with lots of amenities nearby and it was also easy to park there. All in all we had a really nice long weekend at Marlie :)

The caravan was clean and tidy (although short of some crockery, which was quickly replaced when we notified reception) and we were able to park very close by (as requested). An inventory prior to arrival might have been useful and perhaps a checklist of items we needed to bring (sieve, coffee cafetière, large frying pan, bath mat etc)The mattress had a built in protective plastic covering which although hygienic, we found made the sheet slide and noisy to lie on, bringing a mattress topper might solve this. We paid for Wi-Fi for 4 nights as phone reception was not very good and although this worked well, the main disappointment was not being able to link the Wi-Fi to the TV to be able to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime etc (although it was a smart TV), so ended up having to watch these on an iPad.

Caravan on the outside looked nice. Inside was dirty with no hoover etc to clean for ourselves. 1 bed was broken so it was like trying to sleep on a slide. Double mattress was awful to lay on. Park is obviously more owners than holiday users and that was plain to see. “Restaurant” food was awful, chicken was like jelly, completely inedible. We were not the only ones there asking for a refund. Entertainment? What entertainment? It was awful. Not just the bloke screaming “give them a round of applause” every minute but the lack of anything to do on park day or night. The whole Swimming pool building smelt like urine. Lots of unruly kids/teenagers left to run-amuck sweating, shouting, smashing doors and just generally scaring others. Would definitely not recommend and I would definitely not go back again.

The park itself seems well run the staff were helpful and friendly. The club was very loud and not for us as drinks were pricey. The caravan was comfortable and well equipped. Unfortunately parking was an issue but caravans make money adequate parking does not.

We found the bar staff very focussed on their tasks but not particularly chatty. The reception people were helpful and welcoming. The park had the necessary facilities and provided good value for the money we paid for our break. The entertainment was Bingo and very little else however we did not go in peak season.

Robert
Good base for local area. Not Good for quiet break clubhouse too loud can't hear yourself think other than that we had a good break. Beach at St Mary's & dymchurch excellent & fish and chips fantastic.
