Visitor Reviews of The Sherwood Hideaway Lodges

Ellie Carter
Date of stay: 3rd March 2025
Honestly, our stay at Sherwood Hideaway was a bit of a nightmare and we really didn’t expect it to turn out that way, especially with a 12-week-old baby in tow. To start, we had confirmed a travel cot would fit in the master bedroom, but when we arrived, the lodge was nothing like the pictures online - much smaller and cramped and there was no space for the cot at all. We were then moved to another lodge that was just as disappointing - it reeked of pet odour, even though we’d specified no pets and there were issues like a blocked dishwasher, a leaking shower and a ceiling that was dripping water. It was clear the place wasn’t well maintained. But what really made things worse was the customer service. Alison at reception was incredibly rude and dismissive, which was honestly shocking. She even accused me falsely and was so aggressive I ended up in tears. We kept trying to get some kind of response from management, but promises of callbacks were just ignored - we felt completely overlooked and unimportant. It’s just not a family-friendly environment, despite what they claim online. The misleading info, the poor state of the lodges and staff who were dismissive or rude made our first family holiday a total disaster. Honestly, it’s not worth the money at all. If you're after a relaxing break with family, I’d say look elsewhere - this place just isn’t it.

We got bumped over to the Birches lodges because of a problem with our original one, but honestly, we loved it! Huge thanks to the staff - The Birches felt like an upgrade and we really appreciated the change. Definitely a great experience!

We really enjoyed our stay! The lodge was spotless, comfy and had everything we needed. Loved the little extras like the free toiletries, tea, coffee and even treats for our dog. Brilliant!

The lodge was cosy but a tad cramped for four of us and our dog. Still lovely!

So, we checked in and at first glance, the place looked lovely. The lodge had a nice wooden feel and the views were pretty stunning. The rooms were a decent size too, so no complaints there. But things started to go downhill pretty quick. We wanted to relax in the hot tub on Friday night, but none of the jets worked - after about 10 minutes, we gave up and got out. The next day, I called reception and they sent someone to look at it. Turns out the motor was broken and the water was full of dead skin and dirt - pretty gross, honestly. They said they couldn’t move us because the boss wasn’t around and just told us to use another lodge’s hot tub whenever we liked. Walking over in the freezing cold and pitch darkness in swimwear? Not exactly ideal. We did it once, but that was enough. The hot tub we used was much cleaner and way hotter, with jets actually working, so that was a plus. On Saturday, we tried to use the oven, but only the grill was functional - baking jacket spuds was quite the challenge. The fridge barely cooled anything, so forget about keeping drinks cold. The site itself looked lovely, but it was a shame that all the walkways, fields and forests were closed off - would’ve been nice to explore. Honestly, I wouldn’t have booked if I knew the hot tub wasn’t going to be working properly - that was the main reason we chose this place!

Honestly, we were pretty disappointed with the state of the lodges. Both places we stayed in seemed untouched in terms of proper cleaning - it was mainly just bedding and towels swapped over. Given how often these places are used, you'd expect higher standards. On the plus side, the staff were really friendly and looked after us well. Still, the overall cleanliness was a big letdown. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re after a tidy place to stay.

Honestly, we wouldn’t come back. The hot tub was only 35-36 degrees and the lodge was pretty shabby. Staff seemed quite ignorant too.

We had a lovely, laid-back week here. Relaxing in the hot tub while watching shooting stars was truly unforgettable. The location was perfect for exploring National Trust sites and other historic spots, plus there were towns nearby for some shopping. The lodge itself had everything we needed, though the TV had no signal, but luckily we could still watch Netflix on our account. The only minor thing was the dog walkers at night, shining torches around the back of the lodge when we were in the hot tub-gave us quite a fright!

The cabin looked quite old and a bit worn, but the bed was super comfy and spotless. Definitely cozy!

Honestly, we were pretty disappointed with our stay at lodge 30. From the outside, it looked tidy and well-kept, but the inside was a different story. The place was really dirty-dirt on the floors, cobwebs and dust gathering next to the bed and it definitely looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly before we arrived. We found a pair of dirty socks under the table pulled out by the dog and there was food spilt near the fridge. The "en-suite" shower was leaking badly, flooding the bedroom floor which was a nightmare. The sheets on the bed had a hole and looked stained (hope they were just stains, honestly). On the decking, there were old bottle tops and corks left by previous guests. We arrived after 5, so there was no one at reception to report these issues and we ended up cleaning the place ourselves, which was pretty frustrating. With some proper maintenance and a bit of TLC, this lodge could be a really nice place to stay, but it needs some serious attention.

We had a really lovely stay at this lodge. The decor was modern and well-kept, making us feel like we were in a fancy hotel, especially with the slippers and robes provided. Its perfect location meant we could easily get to all the nearby attractions. Ending our days in the hot tub was a real treat!

We had a fantastic stay at the lodge! It was spotlessly clean and super cosy - perfect for our week away with the dogs. The location was great and the enclosed decking was a real bonus, letting us keep the patio doors open without worries. The bed was incredibly comfy and the Egyptian cotton sheets made a real difference. Honestly, we couldn’t find a single fault and would definitely recommend it to others. We’ll be back for sure!

We had a lovely stay at this lodge! It’s super cosy and well equipped, with nice touches like dressing gowns for the kids and treats for the dog-really thoughtful. The hot tub was a highlight, absolutely fantastic. Only downside was the lack of access to nearby woodlands, so we had to drive to explore. Still, a great break!

We recently stayed in this dog-friendly 2 bed lodge after having a one-bedroom there before and it’s just as lovely, if not better! The space is more spacious and everything was spotless, with all the facilities you’d need. The private decking and hot tub overlooking the grass and woodl and are a real highlight, with plenty of wildlife around. We weren’t bothered by the other lodges nearby, even when some were occupied. Parking was straightforward too. Overall, a really nice place!

We chose this place mainly because it was pretty close to home and I’ve been caring for my dad full-time since my mum passed last year. Honestly, we just wanted to relax and unwind after a long week. The hot tub was a real letdown - it was freezing the entire time and despite checking it, it never warmed up. The surrounding area of the hot tub was also quite dirty, which was a bit off-putting. We only saw the lady checking in on us after five days, which felt a bit odd since we were there for a whole week. The gate latch was broken, so we had to keep the dogs on leads to stop them escaping. When we left, I stripped the beds and found the quilt was filthy. I really wish I’d saved my money on this trip.

The stay was lovely, Lodge 23 suited us down to the ground. Peaceful spot, just what we needed, truly relaxing!

Date of stay: 14th November 2023
We had a lovely stay at the cabin and honestly, the place itself was great. The only things that could be improved are minor. The main bathroom could do with a proper shower - maybe a high-up shower head over the bath, alongside the current one, which was handy for rinsing the dog. The kids had to use our bathroom, which was fine, but I’d prefer not to do that if we were visiting with friends. Also, there were no power sockets in the double bedroom, which was a bit of a pain with a teenager around. Still, overall, we had a fantastic time. Just some small suggestions to make it even better!
Emma

The lodge was quite peaceful and warm, which we loved. However, some things could do with a refresh-knives were broken and there’s no bottle opener. Still, comfy beds made it enjoyable.

The location could do with clearer signs from the main road and the tiny double room lacked sockets which was a pain. Also, the bath shower head needs fixing.

Date of stay: 1st November 2023
We stayed at this lodge recently and overall, it was a decent experience, but there were a few things that could’ve been better. The place was spotlessly clean, which we appreciated and the view from the lodge was really lovely - super peaceful and perfect for relaxing. The shower was actually quite nice, too and it’s handy that there are takeaways nearby for food delivery. The location was great, right near the woods and we enjoyed walking around the other lodges on the road. However, we were a bit disappointed to find that there was no clear access to the forest - only one sign saying no access, so we assumed we could walk straight in, but that wasn’t the case. Plus, the sign in the lodge about a disease in the forest meant we couldn’t take our dog on proper walks in the woods, which was a shame. We did find some paths around other lodges, but it wasn’t quite what we expected. When we arrived, we were told we’d get wine and chocolates, but there was only dog treats, which my dog can’t eat - bit of a let-down there. Also, the hot tub wasn’t exactly pristine - it was full of leaves, so it clearly hadn’t been cleaned. The doors were a bit stiff and noisy at night and the power points were poorly placed. Still, we enjoyed the view and the peaceful setting - just a few things to improve on!

We had an amazing time- the hideaway was lovely, we fell for a great weekend. The rooms were lovely, everything we needed and the two fridges were handy. Comfy beds, wonderful hot tub- just a lovely relaxing weekend. Only issue and it’s a non issue, the settees weren’t very comfy- but honestly, we will be back. Amazing. Thank you ?
