Nice lodge, but some hooks and a bit more self-serve needed.

Even though we visited outside peak season, we’d still recommend this place. The lodge was a bit worn, with a hole in the floor from the bed, but that’s just old wear and tear. Overall, it’s a decent spot for a stay!

Really enjoyed our stay, the cabin was spotless and gorgeous. The log fire was fantastic and the outdoor fire pit added a lovely touch. Great value overall!

The location's fantastic, really couldn’t be better. The lodge was decent, though quite cold when we arrived since the heating wasn’t on. Charging the electric car was a real bonus, but walking back at night was pretty dark-torch recommended for sure!

We stayed here recently and really enjoyed the place - it’s lovely and the room was super clean. However, the shower was a bit disappointing; it’s fed from an electric heater under the sink, so the water heat was inconsistent. Also, the kitchen only had a smoke alarm in the bedroom, which unfortunately went faulty during the night, waking us up quite suddenly. Bit of a letdown, but overall, it’s a decent spot.

Nice stay overall, smooth check-in, on-site amenities were handy and the scenery was stunning with great weather!

We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, it’s quite a lovely place - modern and comfy, with a proper cosy wood burner for chilly nights. The place is pet-friendly, which was a big plus for us, but we did find some dusty spots like the headboard and mirrors, which was a bit annoying. Sadly, this dustiness caused an asthma attack for me, so that’s definitely something to watch out for if you’re sensitive. The oven was out of order during our stay, which was a bit of a pain and the TV situation was pretty disappointing - we paid for WiFi just to try and get it working, but it never showed up, so we went a whole week without TV. For the price, we think that should really be included. Still, overall, it’s a nice spot for a relaxing break!

We had a great 4-night stay in January. The cosy log burner was perfect and the backup electric heaters kept us warm when needed. The snowy hill views were stunning! We dined at the Boathouse on our first night and the staff were super friendly with top-notch service. The linens, towels and bedding were really nice. Only downside was the couches being a bit low for my back, but overall, lovely stay!

We loved this cosy little place! The hot tub and log burner made it extra special. Hosts were lovely, super peaceful. Definitely coming back soon!

We stayed at this place during a rainy December and it was just perfect. The house is super well equipped and kept us really cosy. The bath was lovely and the shower was spacious - we loved both! The location is great, especially if you have dogs that hate fireworks, since it’s in a quiet spot. The noise from the flight path didn’t bother us at all either. Thanks a lot, really enjoyed it!
Emma
We had such a lovely weekend here, it really ticked all our boxes. The place was cosy and perfect for a relaxing break. Our dogs had a blast, especially with the underfloor heating-Luna’s tail wagging all weekend was proof! She even came back with a strained tail, apparently from wagging so much. We’ll be coming back for sure!
Alex
The cottage was really charming and perfect for us, tucked away from busy spots. The hot tub was a lovely bonus and the owners were genuinely helpful without being pushy. They’ve got it just right!
Emma
We had a lovely stay at Goddard's Mead. Rob and Sharon have really put a lot of effort into preserving the charm of this historic building and it shows. They gave us such a warm welcome, along with Bonnie, which made us feel right at home. The location’s perfect for exploring Essex; we enjoyed wandering around Thaxted and nearby villages, soaking in the history and beautiful architecture. Definitely recommend for a peaceful escape!
Amelia Carter
We had such a lovely stay in this charming little cottage. The location is really private and peaceful, perfect for unwinding. The owners were super friendly and helpful, always nearby if we needed anything but respecting our privacy. The hot tub was a real highlight after a long day of cycling - bliss! Only thing to note is that it’s right under Stansted’s flight path, so there’s quite a bit of aircraft noise. It didn’t bother us much once we got used to it, but if you’re sensitive to noise, it’s something to consider. All in all, a great find!
James
We recently stayed at this charming cottage on a working farm and it was such a peaceful escape. The owners, Robert and Sharon, are lovely and very welcoming. The place itself is really spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. The bed was super comfy and the garden was perfect for our dog-completely secluded and safe, with nice furniture. There are plenty of walks nearby and we loved exploring the area. Thaxted has some cracking restaurants, especially The Star and The Maypole. The Swan and Indian are worth a mention too. Definitely a place we’d recommend!
Emma
We had such a lovely stay! Sharon and Robert really made us feel at home, which was great. The place was spotless, cosy and safe for our dog Archie, so that was a relief. The location was perfect with loads of nice walks and we loved exploring Thaxted and the nearby villages. By the end of the week, we definitely felt refreshed. It was just what we needed for a relaxing break!
Jessie
We had a fantastic stay! The owners were super friendly and went above and beyond when the storm knocked out the power. The place was spotless, cosy and well stocked. Our dog loved the secure garden and the hot tub was a real treat!
Emma Carter
We had a lovely time at this peaceful spot. Sharon and Robert really go the extra mile to make sure everything's just right. Even after two visits, we’re already planning our next trip back! Would definitely recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay at this charming cottage. Perfect for some peaceful downtime, though planes at night can be a bit noisy. The hot tub was a treat!
Alex
We had such a lovely stay at this cosy little cottage! Honestly, we didn’t need to pack much because the place is so well equipped. The welcome pack was really handy, packed with all the info and menus - you can tell the owners put a lot of thought into it. Our dogs loved the enclosed garden and the hot tub was just perfect after a long day. Sharon and Robe were super quick to reply if we had questions. Thanks for a great break - we’ll definitely be back!
Emily
