Fun Days Out in Powys

Treasure Island Fun Centre

Located in Anglesey in the North of Wales this has to be one of our favourite attractions in the area.  The maze of ramps, slides and tubes will keep the little ones entertained and allow to them to run off their excess energy.  For kids aged 1 to 10 we highly recommend this place.

Penrhyn Castle

Situated in the Gwynedd area of Wales this neo-Norman castle is well worth a visit.  Full of historic and fascinating objects this Castle will appeal to many.  Some of the highlights include the amazing collection of paintings, The Victorian Kitchen, the Servants Rooms, the one ton slate bed made for Queen Victoria and the mock Norman furniture.

Dinosaur Park

This is a popular theme park for kids of all ages where you can follow Dinosaur Trails, play on the adventure playgrounds and on rainy days head for the indoor play den.  You will find this attraction in the Tenby area of Mid Wales and we think it's great value for money.  If you fancy a snack while you are there then the Dinosaur Restaurant and Picnic Area are on hand.

National Botanic Garden of Wales

If you like gardens then this place is sure to appeal.  With some of the most rare plants in the country and even in the world your visit will help to protect some of these species.  Attractions within the Botanic Garden include a mini farm, discovery centre, adventure zone and bee garden.  Located in the Llanarthne area of Mid Wales this place is easily accessible from many of the holiday parks in the area.

Greenwood Forest Park

Greenwood Forest Park is the premier family fun park in Wales and has lots to offer for adults and children alike. Within the park are amazing Treetop Towers, exciting Jungle Boats and a mysterious Crocodile Maze. Fun activities are plentiful including Archery, Stilt Walking and even the very unusual Den Building activity. New for 2010 is Little Forest Play Barn which is the perfect place for the little ones to run around and is also handy if the weather is not great. Don't miss the amazing shows at the outdoor Forest Theatre which include magic shows, and pirate experiences.

Welsh Mountain Zoo

Welsh Mountain Zoo is situated above Colwyn Bay offering stunning views and amazing scenery and is the perfect place for a relaxing day out with the kids. The beautiful gardens are home to many species of animals including some rare and endangered species. This Zoo is very much a conservation programme and educational talks are given regularly. Highlights include Sealions Rock, The Penguin Playtime show and the Chimp Encounter.

Glasfryn Activity Parc

Glasfryn Activity Parc is an award winning year round attraction with plenty of facilities to keep the whole family happy. Quad Bikes, Archery, Soft Play and even Wakeboarding can all be enjoyed. The site also has a fantastic farm shop, a café and 10 pin bowing complex.

Rhondda Heritage Park

Rhondda Heritage Park is located at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery and is a popular attraction with a range of facilities including a visitor centre, an art gallery, a gift shop, and a lovely period re-constructed Village Street.  Fully guided tours are available and include multimedia presentations as well as a unique trip underground where visitors will experience the life of a coal miner. The site also boasts a children's play area and an underground experience zone.

Took the grandchildren away for a few days as a half term treat. Aged between 9 & 3 years old. Had a great time. Would have been great if the site had more activities for the children. All still enjoyed this break.
Graham
The location was amazing! We saw more than 20 types of bird just outside our lodge. The lodge was spacious & the kitchen well equipped. However, the mattresses & pillows were awful & none of the adults got a decent nights sleep unfortunately! Everything else was fantastic but the quality of the bedding means we wouldn’t book this cabin again. Some new mattresses, pillows & some crisp white bedding, along with plain natural coloured curtains would really make this accommodation first class. Oh, almost forgot...the showers were horrendous too! Barely a trickle & with fluctuating temperature meant us ladies didn’t even attempt to wash our hair! Again, easy to solve to make this really tip top!
Brigitta
Absolutely loved this place and we are definitely going back! We have recommended to family and friends. The location is just perfect with stunning views and fantastic walks along the canal. In between 2 large towns but far enough away to feel your the only people in the world!
Aaron
Brilliant short break. Lovely cottage and surrounding. Great local restaurants. Had a fab relaxing weekend.
Clare
We originally booked the Hawthorns spa but due to the bad weather and snow the pipes had frozen, the owners were really helpful and were able to relocate us to the Stablings Cottage. It was perfect.
Zilia
This was the perfect location for a weekend getaway. The cabin was lovely and cosy for the six of us and we will definitely be returning again!
Nicola
Fantastic weekend break at Penllwyn Lodges . Great place to unwind and relax. The surroundings are just beautiful. Great walks along the canal, with a nice pub along the way. Ideal for for those who just want to relax, golfers (situated overlooking the course) or those who love walking.
Sue
Gorgeous place, some lodges don't get WiFi, excellent facilities, great location. Will return
Andrew
Stunning location! Stayed in Captains lodge. Made us say WOW when we walked in! Plenty of room for our group of 4 adults and 4 kids. Great location for some good old fashioned outdoor fun with the kids (rolling in the leaves, climbing hills and just generally getting dirty!) Friendly and informative welcome on arrival. Had an amazing weekend. One thing I would recommend might be hot tub in the bigger lodges. Would be a great end to the day! Will definately be returning in the near future. Thank you!
Michael
We all had a great time in a lovely setting .
